Essex Chronicle best weekly again
27.01.10
The Essex Chronicle’s “bolder edge” was cited by judges who named the Northcliffe title the Weekly Newspaper of the Year for the third consecutive year at the EDF Energy East of England Media Awards.
“The Essex Chronicle has undergone a major revamp in the last 12 months and, along with a new design, has around 40% more stories,” commented the judges, making special mention of its Stand Up For Free Speech edition.
The paper also picked up the Front Page of the Year honour for its coverage of a Cornish beach death, Surf Tragedy Hits Family, which was praised for being “a complete front page, full of drama, that would make you want to buy the paper”.
Northcliffe stablemate the Brentwood Gazette was named runner-up in both categories.
